Panpsychism (Bronze, 213 x 71 x 64 cm)
Panpsychism, from the Greek pan (“all”) and psyche (“soul” or “mind”), proposes that consciousness is not exclusive to complex life but is a fundamental feature of the universe itself. Rather than emerging solely from brains, mind is embedded in all matter, however small or seemingly inert.
As philosopher William Seager observes, “At a very basic level, the world is awake.” This sculpture reflects that insight, inviting us to reconsider the divisions we impose between subject and object, animate and inanimate.
Panpsychism gestures towards a cosmos where awareness is woven through every form, a reminder that consciousness may be more expansive and elemental than we have imagined.
